Martina Menegon (she/her, Italy, 1988) is an artist, curator, educator, and researcher working between Vienna and the cyberspace.

In her works, Martina creates intimate and complex assemblages of physical and virtual elements that explore the mechanics of embodiment in digital and extended realities, and the hybrid, chimeric nature of contemporary corporeality.
Working across 3D scanning, immersive technologies, and performative self-portraiture, she investigates how digital embodiment can become a poetic and subversive strategy for reshaping the self as a continuous process of transformation. Her work reflects on identity and presence, revealing the vulnerability of the hybrid body, the fragmentation of the self, and the poetics of the in-between.

At the core of her practice lies the figuration of a hybrid, shapeshifting selfhood that embraces fragmentation and multiplicity. Her digital extensions distorted, suspended, and emotionally charged, act as intimate containers of contradiction. They glitch, morph, and unfold, refusing to settle into fixed form.
Rooted in cyber, queer, posthuman, and feminist frameworks, Martina approaches glitch not merely as an aesthetic tool but as a political method of care that resists normativity, coherence, and algorithmic legibility. Trhough glitch, she explores the poetics of the grotesque and the transformative potential of hybrid embodiment as a site of feminist and queer empowerment. She reclaims digital space as a site of care, refusal, and resistance, where fluid subjectivities and experimental kinships take shape through the glitch, the chimera, and the refusal to be defined.

In 2019, Martina founded the curatorial platform /afk, producing a series of solo exhibitions in Vienna focused on local and international practices in digital and extended reality art. She curated and directed the Uncanny Reality Festival in 2021 and has held key curatorial roles, including Vice Director and Curator at CIVA – Festival for New Media Art in Vienna (2021 to 2023) and Head of Extended Reality for the Area for Virtual Art (2020 to 2024), on behalf of sound:frame.

Martina is currently Senior Artist and Lecturer in the Transmedia Art Department at the University of Applied Arts Vienna (die Angewandte), where she teaches Digital Design and Virtuality. She is also a PhD researcher in the Transformation Studies. Art x Science program, a joint initiative between die Angewandte and Johannes Kepler University Linz (JKU).

Her work has been exhibited internationally, both online and in physical spaces, in institutions, festivals, and galleries including Francisco Carolinum Linz, MAK – Museum of Applied Arts Vienna, NRW-Forum Düsseldorf, Les Rencontres d’Arles, Spark Art Fair, Upstream Gallery, Kunstraum Niederoesterreich, FILE Festival, WRO Biennale, Virginia Bianchi Gallery, HeK – House of Electronic Arts, Epoch Gallery, and Vellum LA.
